Ruger Gun Site Scout Rifle
Anyone have an experience with a Ruger GSR they'd like to share with me?

I noticed one of our new members has one listed in his armoury.

I can remember being very excited when I first saw them appear and they still rouse a second look but after handling one at the Shooting Show, the last year it was at Newark, there was something that put me off.
I cant decide if it was the price tag or perhaps how light the rifle was and me thinking recoil might be nan issu in .308.
Perhaps i read that accuracy was not great?
I would be interested to read a real world report should you have time.

If it wasn't for the price tag I'd give one a home. Recoil can be stout but certainly won't be as bad as some of the rifles I have or have owned.
When I had an Ishapore scout rifle my favourite plinking load was a 125gn bullet @ 2500fps - bliss!

So I like the look and feel and I get the Col Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle concept. Some years ago I had a Ishapore 2A Gibbs No6 Conversion which I put a rail on to and an Aimpoint. It was quite effective at the LERA Enfield Challenge but was a bit heavy on the recoil to the point that I put a shot gun pad which tamed it a bit. I then experimented with an old No4 Mk2 action with an 18" barrel, Pete Sarony made a left handed bolt for me which went forward and up (rather than forward and down), I fitted a 1.5-5x20 Leupold on this and it shot quite well. I managed to complete the Enfield Challenge only dropping 2 shots. Following all this I read Cooper's book and this rekindled my interest in the scout rifle.
So Why did I buy a GSR? Because it came from the factory in Left Hand. I like the idea of the 10 round detachable mags and to my knowledge nothing else is available from the factory in that configuration. Does it shoot? A good question, it shot better with 155 SMK than 168 Scenar but when shooting 30-40 shots prone it does get a chore. I've got some 125 & 135 SMK to experiment with and hoping to get it to hold 1 MOA.

Re: Ruger Gun Site Scout Rifle
I have a left handed one in the armoury. Once fitted with a decent muzzle brake (not so easy to get one in 1/2UNF) it is a pleasure to shoot.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.
Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.
