Savage Axis 223 Bedding
I bought a new stock for my Savage Axis in .223 from Boyds when the stocks were first made for public sale, and I am just about to go an bed the action as I just can't get the rifle to group under 1 1/2" at 100m
After smoking the stock with a candle I found that the recoil lug is not sitting square in the stock as the action touches the front left and back right on the lug, and there's not a lot of contact at all between the front of the action and the stock
I'm just curious if anyone else has bought one of these stocks and found the same thing's as me

So called 'drop in ' laminate stocks seldom are. Can wood be cut with the same precision as steel? But, if you are intending to bed it, it doesn't really matter.

Re: Savage Axis 223 Bedding
mine worked fine, but then Howas have a mongo sized recoil lug that is wedge shaped and seems to bed itself in, that said, I have glass bedded mine and it was an easy process, and the gun is definitley a shooter.
Re: Savage Axis 223 Bedding
I have a Boyds' thumb-hole stock on my Savage 110 .243 which required some fitting. I haven't seen one yet that will just '' drop in''. Unbedded, it is a sub MOA rifle but I have found that the less substantial Axis needs to be bedded, at US$99 these stocks are great value.
Re: Savage Axis 223 Bedding
I think it all depends which rifle you buy the stock for. I have a 6.5x55 Swede that was sporterized, I bought a Boyds stock for that and had to fiddle with it to fit and glass bedded it and now it fits and shoots great. My Remmy 700 on the other hand was different, it dropped right in, barrel free floated and it still shoots sub Moa. Didn't have to mess with that one at all.6.5x55 wrote:I have a Boyds' thumb-hole stock on my Savage 110 .243 which required some fitting. I haven't seen one yet that will just '' drop in''. I've not tried one on a Remmy 700 but have found that Savage , Stevens , Winchester & Ruger have required some fitting.Blu wrote:I think it all depends which rifle you buy the stock for.
