Good choice hobbesy.

I have a full-length rail on my old Savage 110 FP, with 20 MOA elevation built in. Mine was a very early one - and when I checked the rifling twist, it was much slower than the 1-in-9 advertised. I contacted Savage and they told me first thousand rifles they built, they didn't have 1-in-9 barrels to put on them, so they sent them out with a slower twist (1-in-14 I think). They advised me to send it back, and they'd re-barrel it to 1-in-9 at no cost. That was in 1993. I had it re-chambered with a Wylde reamer, and it shoots like a dream. Somewhere around I still have a playing card I shot with it from 800 metres - these are phenomenally accurate rifles for the price point.

My other long-range rifle is a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308 Win.

Here's my Christmas present to me.

Double Star lower, DPMS upper and 16 inch barrel (1-in-9 twist) without that awful M4 barrel profile. I do not intend to mount an M203 and I find that cut-out ugly.

It has since been fitted with a Burris 3-9 x 40 Ballistic Plex scope in Warne QD mounts and the iron sights are now purely for backup. I have left the thread protector on for now as I can't decide whether to go for a standard A2 flash eliminator, or a Surefire muzzle brake (so that I can really save my pennies for a Surefire suppressor).
Not too happy about the grip, I think that will shortly be replaced with a standard A2 grip.

Of course the really good thing about it, is that mine isn't straight-pull, it's direct gas impingement just as Eugene Stoner intended.

Hobbesy I always meant to ask, is the new rifle black? In the picture it has a very nice green tint to it which could just be the picture however it looks good for it.

hobbesy,

I assume you have a scope mounted? How about an updated photo?
