That is a good looking rifle, what distances will you shoot it at?

Will try it out as far as possible, our club does 100, 300 and has some falling plate days out to about 1200 so will try them all, although I don't expect it to reach out to 1200. I would like to be shooting 600 and getting decent groups, I think a more powerful/better quality scope in the future will help that.

It will put bullets out to 1200 however quite where they go is a different matter! Try 1200 on a warm day with a reasonable load and a spotter to correct the fall of shot and you will have loads of fun.

Here's my good old Savage 110 FP. It has been glass-bedded, the action trued and has a Wylde chamber.

What ammunition are you using?

Mine really likes Black Hills Mk 262 Mod 0/Mod 1 with the 77 grain Sierra Matchking projectile. People try and tell me the 1-in-9 twist barrel won't stabilise 77 grain projectiles, but that has not been my experience.

Back about 20 years ago I used to use Berger 80 grain VLD, but they exceeded maximum OAL so had to be single loaded. To get them to properly stabilise in the 1-in-9 twist I had to drive them very fast - 2900+ fps - which exceeds normal pressures. I had to make 'Mexican Match' ammunition, using military ammunition intended for use in machine guns firing from an open bolt, with heavily constructed crimped-in primers. I then pulled the projectile and replaced the propellant with a weighed charge. It also meant loading the brass only once.

I used Vit N140, 25grains (I think) Hornady 55grain bullets, but have bought SMK 69grains for my next lot
