Are you talking about extraction problems with steel cased milsurp in refurbed Mosin Nagants? There is a reason for this and it isn't how hot the ammo is.

The lacquer on the steel cased rounds gets hot and soft. The cosmolene in the chamber (which could have been there for 70 years and is now dry and invisible to the eye) gets hot and there is an unholy alliance between the two. Run a 12 bore brush dipped in solvent (at the end of a rod) attached to a drill up and down the chamber and the problem will vanish.

I for one hate the idea of borrowing reamers, even from very good friends, I much prefer to buy my own as needed and then store them away ready for the next time. Same goes for head space gauges, however I do borrow action keys and lend mine out if I have one someone needs. Also I really do not mind if someone copies my action spanner whilst they have it in their hands.

Action keys can you post a picture of one do you need different ones for different actions. What would a action key look like for a Tikka m65. Do you make your own or do you buy them. How do you secure the barrel to allow the removal of the action.

We expect 7.62x54R to be around for a good while yet. It's only seen 126 years continuous service so far and is still the standard medium machine gun round of the Russian Army, and widely used elsewhere too in the same role. We'd put money on it seeing service for another 50 years.

Well for mine its a Moisin Nagant M38 action because that is what I had, also I was keen to chamber it in 7.62x53R as it has a good throat and lead for cast bullets and the Lapua brass is actually made for the 7.62 x 53R. I also like rounds that headspace on the rim as that gives extra help in ensuring chamber concentricity.

Last time I discussed this with the gunsmith it was a Lothar Walther barrel that was what we were going for.

For me the chambering wanted is the deciding factor on action so as there is no need for bolt modifications.

It's looking like we should find ourselves a Noise Magnet with a Tula hexagonal receiver then, and then have a world with ovenpaa to see what barrel he would recommend for us.

I did a internet search I see how its done. I have a idea how to make a action wrench. The clamp to hold the barrel might take a bit of thinking about but I think it can be done just need a donor rifle to play with now. Hmmm.
