AE3 in 260 Remington @ 900 yards, make it or not?

#1 Post by mag41uk »

Spent Friday morning at Bisley chronoing umpteen loads at 100 yds.
More to confirm velocities with different weight bullets as the group sizes were pretty much the same.
I have been using N160 but just got some Ramshot Big Game and Hunter to try.
I decided to stick with the N160 139gn Scenar load for now.
Having confirmed average velocity of 2700fps I used AlBal software to calculate drop for 900.
I had previously zeroed at 200 with that load and I worked out that 27 moa was required to get me from 200 to 900.
So onto the firing point and that scary first round! You all know how that feels!
BANG! and the satisfaction of seeing the target go down!
First shot at 4 o`clock in the white. Game on!
There was a blustery cross wind from left to right and was 30mph increasing to 40 mph during the morning.
I ended up with 9 moa windage and some guys using 308 were at 13moa.
I was getting 5`s and v`s with the occasional off to the right in the white.
I tried some 123gn Scenars at 2850fps and had to lose 4moa in elevation.
All in all a good result.
Cheers,
Tony

Love my 260 rem at 1000.........would never have bought the 308 if I had 'discovered' 260 first!
