Two questions:
Are the current crop of Italian repros, such as the Uberti Winchester copies, suitable for smokeless loads or are they more suited to blackpowder? ...I am thinking of 44/40 & 45/70.
Similarly, are the original (and now very expensive) Winchesters suitable for smokeless..?
Nitro or Blackpowder...???

Re: Nitro or Blackpowder...???
More than suitable for smokeless. I've previously owned an Uberti 1873 Winchester replica and it was a gorgeous gun.. I've also had two Pedersoli Sharps replicas both in .45-70. Again lovely, lovely rifles that for the life of me, as I sit here, I can't tell you why I sold them.....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Nitro or Blackpowder...???
Sim....thanks for that.
I wanted a bit of reassurance regarding using smokeless.
I have a 45/100 Pedersoli Rolling Block and only use black in that to keep it "in period"....but I am contemplating a Uberti Winchester in either 44/40 or 45/70.

Re: Nitro or Blackpowder...???
I have a Uberti 1866 'Yellow Boy' which is in .45 Long Colt, bought it off another FB member, Mag44UK, a few years back. Handles Full House nitro loads no problem. All of the current Winchester clones are designed for smokeless powders as far as I know.targetman wrote:Two questions:

If you had an antique Winchester then that's another question........
