It's even got too many bolt-on extras for Blackstuff to count without taking off his socks

You should have bought one of them Browning Tac A-bolt rifles: I hear they're real tack drivers in the right hands :)

How did you improve the group, just finding the right ammo for it?

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Replaced th stock for something a lot more solid than the factory. Fettled the trigger, fitted a "Mo-Rod", and chopped the barrel making it stiffer. Then, played around with probably a half a dozen bullets or more, combined with three or four powders...... Glutton for punishment.

And all this to achieve consistant 1.5 to 2 inch groups at 100. Everynow and again, lady luck would throw me a one inch, five shot cluster. But considering that some report no better than five inches, whatever they do, I'm somewhat pleased with it!

Interesting I haven't heard of a mo-rod before....

Well that's part of it's charm if you ask me, getting everything just right and trying to get the best out of what you have. 5 moa sounds a bit wild, I didn't realise they were that inaccurate.

Barrels are fairly thick under the stock until they get to the gas block, then are thin by comparison, which makes them somewhat "whippy", which only becomes amplified as they heat up.

Interesting I hadn't thought of heat making it worse, but it makes sense.
