Just to check that I wasn't going insane by going to a few UK dealers of historic pistols, they are all very clear on the matter a Webley Mk4 or a Browning Hi-Power are only being sold as deacs, section 7.1 or 7.3.

Gaz or anybody else here in the know need to do some investigating about these apparent cases that the journo cites as evidence by NABIS.

If NABIS have done what I think they are spinning stories and out right feeding falsehoods to the press. I think that might even require an official rebuttal from Bisley and the BASC press office...It might well be the only way to make this journalist sit up and realise how he has been used.

I've dropped an email to a firearms solicitor asking if she's heard of the two cases our Evening Standard friend mentions.

I'm entirely with Fedaykin - NABIS are feeding lies to the press to push their own agenda. I'm entirely happy to show up those lies for what they are.

Thanks Gaz, the journo appears to be taking the position currently:

"They are official experts in a position of authority so what they are telling me must be true"!

NABIS are really showing form this last year:

1) Police make some kind of gun haul that is released to the press with great fanfare
2) Press look for somebody to make an official comment
3) NABIS helpfully answer their questions then add in a lot of spin about antique guns
4) Press happily print what NABIS tell them without looking to other channels to fact check

Just look at this Independent article from January, despite the article stating that gun crimes are low in this country with an actual figure (albeit not explained that many of those include technical faults rather then street crime) they go on about antique guns but make no attempt to back up their assertions with actual evidence!

Does nobody proof read anymore? That article is so poorly written it makes my head hurt! Considering NABIS are meant to be the experts you'd hope they'd have at least explained the difference between a bullet and a cartridge.
NABIS clearly have their own agenda probably prompted by the ACPO in a bid to justify their existence.
I do find it funny that not one article mentions ammunition and some even allude to the deacts being dangerous.

Well they are, I suspect being bludgeoned to death with a deact pistol is probably quite dangerous for the person on the receiving end......

I wonder if they'll be included in the forthcoming hammer ban?

Hammer Ban, way overdue!

You can just see the armed response units taking down some 4 year old toddler with a Bob the Builder kit some day can't you!

Did they not charge some kid who had a water gun with a firearms offence a few years back because he squirted some old biddy? Rings a bell..

I do hope so, we need at least a comprehensive certification system for hammers. you know ensure those who purchase them are fit and proper....
