Well that was fun, always good to meet a shooter who has never shot beyond 300 yards and introduce him to 1200 yard shooting on a fine day.

Yebbut did he hit the V Bull from the 1200 point or just dance around it? The AI in 6,5x47 is a super little thing and the suppressor really does make it a pleasure to shoot.

yes it was a really nice bit of kit and that mod was really good but i just couldn't get used to the trigger im just to used to the light stuff, i checked my trigger when i got home and it must be over twice as light as yours. but im sure mine wont be as accurate , for tomorrow i have 3 different loads and my subsonics to test as well as some german and spanich surplus and a couple of lapua match rounds to test.

I am off to Barton Road tomorrow with the mighty Steyr and a pocketful of 170 Lockbase with some TR140 behind it

How did you get on with the 170's?..I did'nt have much success with them in my SSG (45.5 n140). The rifle seems to shoot best with 7.62 NATO type and I have worked up a load for the S&B 147 FMJ that is accurate at 800 mtr. I appreciate you are wanting to go out to 1200mtr. The same 170 lockbase and 170 D46 loads are spot on at 1000mtr in the AW.

Well the good news was the load I ended up with showed no significant over pressure signs at all through the SSG. This was an OAL of 2.885" with a .010" jump, Fed210 primers, Lapua brass and a final load of 47 grains of TR140 which should have given a theoretical MV of 2,756fps however according to my math was closer to 2800fps on the day. Someone had borrowed my chrongraph so it was away at the time.

Downside is the 6X scope and 600m targets really made things difficult as I could not even see the marking disk at 1000 yards and I was having problems dialling the windage in so I stopped shooting. I really need to get back to 600 yards and work at that distance as I am starting to think the SSG with a 6x 'scope is going to be difficult to shoot precisely at 1000.

My real problem is I much prefer to shoot at 1000+ yards and the Steyr is not the ideal rifle for this in 'as issued' form. Having said that it was still great fun to shoot.

I agree with you about the scope...not ideal for target shooting, but good as a battle sight and at the end of the day that's what it was designed for. Do you know if there are any similar scope mounts in 34 mm?..I've got my eyes on a Premier heritage 3-15 x 50 at a good price and think it will transform the rifle. I was hoping not to go down the picatinny rail route if poss.
