Re: Buying a Mosin
Hi Mackie,
You may have to wait until the phoenix arms fair later this month to buy 54r at a reasonable price maybe or as stated ITL near Bisley has surplus for sale, but why do you want to use match ammo in a Mosin M44 may be ok in a longer barreled sniper but not in a short barrel. Save yourself some money and run it on surplus and you will get a better flame as well..

Thanks chaps.
The match ammo was more for an experiment just to see if it made any great difference to the accuracy. I know iraqveteran8888 was getting very tight groups with that stuff, can't imagine it being cheap though.
That said, most of the time I'm shooting MEN 7.62x51 surplus out of a proper target rifle and that does the job up to 600y just fine.

How about grabbing a few boxes of Prvi? Much cleaner than surplus and you can save the brass and reload. The sh1te left behind in the barrel after shooting surplus is impressive. It's also very corrosive. Clean well as soon as you get home!
You might find that the bolt gets really stiff after shooting surplus. If so give the chamber a damn good clean with solvent. When hot any left over cosmolene blends with the lacquer on the steel case and gums it up proper.
Also make sure you clean the bayonet if you feel the need to shoot with it extended. They can rust as well after shooting surplus.
