Any one shooting at BISLEY this saturady the 10th?

#1 Post by mag41uk »

I have a newly made acquaintance who is Belgian (and lives there) and wishes to shoot at Bisley.
He is an individual member of the NRA and has shot at the Trafalgar.
He is wanting to shoot at 5/600 morning then 8/900 in the afternoon.
I have said I will try and book a target in the morning on Saturday (only time I can spare) at 600 although a bit short notice.
Any one here shooting at Bisley on Saturday who would like to help him out.
Belgian beer has been mentioned!

Thanks Tony i really appreciate you helping me on my way.

Morning is covered, but if anybody has a target on Stickledown in the afternoon, I'de love to get a few strings in at 8-9 or 1000 yards.
Don't need much , just a couple to see if my loads work for those ranges with the calibrated sight of the 1903A3.

I wonder, if i don't find anybody up front, how "acceptable" would it be to just hang around at the firing line of Stickle down,
and politely ask around if anybody has a bit of room for me? Yay or Nay for Bisley etiquette?

It's been done before. You could also try asking in the range office in case of a cancellation, or towards the end of the afternoon - sometimes people finish early and the markers can't leave the butts until 17:30 anyway - the offer of a small tip may help.

Cool, I don't expect to much of it, but i'de really like to see if i can hit something at a thousand.
My main concern is the sights that i mentioned.

Image

Last time i had used the Hornady ballistics calculator to check my 155 grain Sierra trajectory would match the 150 grain 1940'ies M2 Ball spec.
But since we don't have a 600 yds range back home, let alone 1000 yds , we weren't sure if that plan would work.

Now it did work up to 600, worked pretty good actually, got at least 1 V at 500 and and one V at 600.
But i haven't tested if the plan also works further out.
As you can see in the picture, the notches space out wider and wider.. There's nothing in between at the biggest settings.

Technically i could add some notches with a Dremel.. And no the gun isn't a mint collectors item either..And yes spare rear sights can be sourced if need be.
But i think it's a bit of a challenge in it's own right to try and make it work the way it was issued. eg to match the ammo.
So i'de love to test it out
