Howa 1500 stock

#1 Post by dirtydawk »

Hello all
I am planning on changing the bendy hogue stock on my howa 1500 and I was wondering if anybody knew if a remmy 700 stock would fit.
I have looked at Boyds stocks, but I regularly see remmy 700 stocks for sale at very reasonable prices and if I could pick one of these up on the cheap I would give it a whirl.
My hope is that somebody has already tried this and has a definate answer. I googled it but did not find a definate answer anywhere.
Thanks
Ian

I would suspect that unless you are good with wood and filler that it would be cheaper to go with the Boyds.

People often say the Howa 1500 action is a Remy 700 clone. It's not underneath - it is much closer to the old Sako L series with a flat bottom and integral recoil lug and will come nowhere near to fitting a Remy stock inlet even if the screw and trigger spacing is the same. (Which I'd say is very unlikely.)

Just been on Boyds website, they do some lovely laminate stocks for $100, got the shock of my life when I saw the $70 delivery charge!
Add onto that the import duty and Parcel Farce's charge then the $100 rifle stock starts to look a bit pricey.

try looking at UK stock manufacturers and it all starts to look cheap again tongueout £130 delivered to your door isn't bad for something that has to swim across the Atlantic!

Cancel that. I see what you mean now about UK prices. All of a sudden a Boyds stock is looking like a bargain!

Set up a search on Ebay. I've seen maybe half a dozen various Howa stocks in the last month or so.
I've a Boyd thumbhole laminate on my Howa, and while it looks a treat and feels great, the whole setup with scope/bipod/moderator weighs in at 14 pounds.
