Help: Bit of a problem

#1 Post by CDM5 »

Hi all, hope you can give some advice on situation I have.

I have a Ruger 10/22 with a match barrel. I've just bought a Kidd bolt and custom receiver (with a new serial number).

I went to my firearms department yesterday for a variation and now have a slot for a .22RF Receiver/Bolt which the FLO and my RFD were happy with to do the transfer.

So my question is once I put the new action, bolt and barrel together I'm left with the old Ruger action. If and when I go to dispose of it I'll have a barrel left unaccounted for and just Receiver/Bolt listed on my ticket, not a complete .22 rifle.

I'm not sure the FLO fully understood the issue I was trying to explain to her. And my RFD couldn't see a way around it either.

I suppose I could get another variation for a spare .22RF barrel but having 3 entries for a complete rifle is ridiculous.

Can any of you offer advice? :good:

if you dont plan on keeping the old receiver/bolt then the easiest way would have been to get variation for another .22lr rifle

then take your rifle to RFD build it up with the new parts that were delivered to him and enter onto your FAC as the new rifle serial number, leaving the receiver and bolt at the RFD for storage/sale

Im confused how you will have a barrel unaccounted for?

the problem is in my opinion that your FAC will show a complete rifle serial number XXXXX that you wont actually have as it will be just receiver and bolt, while the slot you just filled with receiver XXXX will actually be in the cabinet as a whole rifle

legally I suppose that your ok? as you have authority to own it, but could cause confusion?

Sell all of the spare parts at the time you sell the rifle :good: Otherwise unless you do as suggested above and build a new rifle you'll no longer have a 'good reason' to posess the spare parts and you'll have to put them into an RFD, where they will languish for years. Or at least thats what happened with me with a spare AR-15 lower receiver
