Martin action rifles

We're just pondering, oomans: we like Martini action rifles, and have a .22 Greener ourselves of that ilk. A .303 is on our wish list, and know that Dromia and others have .310 cadets that they speak highly of. Wouldn't it be nice if they were also available in 9mm, .38 and .44 too ? If we were to find an old shot out Martini, would it be an enormous effort to have it re-chambered?

Re barreling and chambering an action should not be difficult, I'm currently shooting a small frame Martini Action, with a Lothar Walther barrel chambered for 218 Bee all tied together in a Vickers Empire one piece stock complete with a BSA aperture sight and a Dinox 2.5-4x scope.

Sounds impressive ! We like the idea of something similar in a pawgun calibre...

... and we're even wondering if, as an alternative to .218 Bee, a .223 / 5.56 chambering might be done.

No offence but your choice of cartridges is really boring, a 222 would be infinitely better than a 223 for instance. If I was looking for a pistol calibre then the 44/40 would be my cartridge of choice.

Still if you have the reamer then you can chamber for any cartidge that the action will take.

BTW I sooner have a 218 Bee than a 223 any day.

could martini actions use a rimless round ? from memory I think not ?

I believe that it has been done but involves a lot more work.

Conversions in .32 and .38/.357 are fairly common and have been carried out by several "gunsmiths" and gunsmiths. I know of a couple that are shot by fellow club members and they are really rather nice to shoot and very accurate.

I've seen a few different attempts at Martini extractors for rimless rounds. None of them are appropriate to the simple, beautiful elegance of the action.

Jim Hallam was making these but I think he may have sold up or retired now.
I asked if he could make one in 10mm and he said no problem.
I think he had already made a couple in 45acp.

would something like a bsa martini .22 be able to be converted into a bigger pistol calibre? like 10mm then?

or is it only the bigger older rifles?
