CZ Varmint / Anschutz

#1 Post by Dave 101 »

Hi

This is a project I have been working on for a while now . The stock was from an Anschutz 54 , I had intended to use it as a BR stock for my BRNO model 4 .
The stippled area at the F/E was an inleted peice wider than the stock for the front rest , so I reduced the width and stippled it with a small burr in the dremmel tool .
It will now be used as a standing unsupported discipline , having cut about 4" off of the fore end and added the adjustable butt plate to get a comfortable fit .
I needed to inlet the action to allow for the magazine well , the action is pillar bedded , and a full bedding job for the action which is only held in place with the one screw.
I had to get a floor plate cut and inlet that into the stock , it is retained by the forward hex screw and a wood screw at the rear of the trigger guard . The trigger guard is the original Anschutz one , I removed some of the base height of it as it sits on the floor plate , held in place with a hex bolt and nut .
I intend to get the barrel chopped to 16" , just over as I slugged the barrel and found a tight spot to cut the muzzle at .
The scope is a weaver style which I bought on ebay , no markings on it , so not sure what the magnification is , gave the lenses a clean and its clear with good cross hairs and its light compared to the weight of modern scopes .
Finished the wood off with American walnut stain and tru oil .
Hope to give it a try out on Sunday before chopping the barrel to see how it performs .

I like that, it shows thought and individuality and looks very handy as well. I look forward to a range report.

Now you could always hacksaw the end of the barrel off yourself, as long as you are careful and dress it you will be OK, then take it down the range and check it, that way you can always take a bit more off if needed before getting it dropped into a late and crowned. It has been done before.

The only time I have ever seen a CZ rifle look remotely pleasing to the eye!!! Well done.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I liked it when I first saw it, and it is growing on me even more. Personally (Nit-picking time) I would prefer a satin oiled finish however that is just me.

How does it shoot?

It shot well , I managed an extra 20 points this week 274 x 300 , I will try it Sunday with a modern scope and see how I get on .
Practising for the Phoenix , so I am starting from scratch on this discipline . I cant get the barrel chopped just yet , want to fully see how it performs first .
