Re: Steyr Mannlicher rifles

I've got a mk2 Pro Hunter in .308, been looking to sell it as I prefer my Swing.

Nice rifle, lovely engineering, the stock is a bit flexible though, best shot off a rest rather than a bipod. I was considering get a Joe West stock for it at some point, but I doubt that will happen.

I can show it to you at Bisley if you want a go and the law permits this. I've shot it at 100-1000 yards with good results, it's had the barrel modified to take a ASE moderator.

Can email pictures if you want.
Careful now/that sort of thing

The thing is I don't want to spend £3k if I don't have to.

It seems that you have to pay for a pistol grip either way then!!

I quite like the look of the Elite by the way with pistol grip but.....

I now quite like the look of more traditional looking rifles like yours as well :o

Who'd have thought it. ;)

Seems they are factory fix and service only though???

Everybody has Tikkas and Sakos at the club with the Tikka T3 tactical being extremely popular.

I fancy something a bit different.

I'm also going to buy used now I think as I have seen some lovely bargains that people have got hold of at the club and I can always sell it for similar money again.

I guess the thing to do is have a list of three and then buy what is a good rifle and available and the time.

I would like a pistol grip though...

My rifle is topped off with a Kahles scope and the whole combination does draw a fair amount of attention at the firing point. Think I paid around 2 grand for the rifle from Sportsmans and had to wait 12 weeks for delivery from Austria.
I also toyed with the idea of an AT but I don't have any regrets in not buying one. I've shot an AT and while it was nice, I don't think it was a whole lot better than the Steyr (and certainly not a £1000 better).
There was a lad next to me with a new AT at the last shoot and he was hitting everything except the target and of course, that's the problem isn't it ...? You can have the best equipment on the planet but if you can't shoot for sh*t then you really are wasting your lolly.
I don't think you would be disappointed with an SSG04 / 8.
