Anyone know the specs for a torsion spring for my Mosin?

#1 Post by bigfathairybiker »

I'm wanting to remove the take up slack on my Mosin's trigger after adjusting the trigger pull.
So, I've done a search on the tinternet, but can only find USA suppliers.
Anyone know specs or a place I could get one over here?

Thanks,

Mark

Install a Finnish trigger

Biker;

As Saddler says, install a Finnish trigger.

There is a guy on ebay flogs them (he is Finnish). I bought one and it was delivered quickly. Difference fore and after is like chalk and cheese. I think it cost around 12 quid and took around 15 minutes to fit.

Just looked on eb*y and there are currently 3 listed at c. £40 delivered - probably still worth it though

I just pulled apart one of the missus hair clips. Small butterfly type, worked a treat. The clips florists use to hold plant stems to sticks look pretty similar too.

Now that is a cool idea.
I'll be scrounging off the sister in laws tonight. :)

Also, does 4-4.5lb sound ok for the pull?
It actually feels quite light.
The original pull before fettling was 9lb.

9lb doesn't sound too bad, mine was nearer 14lb before fettling. Mine is now spot on 2 1/2 lb. I wouldn't go much further than that as there's a fair bit of slop in the bolt and if you go too far there's always a chance of it letting go all by itself. Smacking the butt hard on the floor while cocked will be a pretty good indicator if alls well.

Hmmm... I just tried the "bump test" and the sears do jump.
I didn't try the test before I fettled though.

Is the Mosin's trigger meant to pass the test?

EDIT: I've had a close look at the sear engagement with the lighter trigger and the sears are still fully engaged. The spring adjustment I have made has not moved the sears, but just lighted the spring.

That doesn't sound too good. I got mine down to 2 1/2 lb by using a 25 thou shim under the spring and polishing the sear engagement which is now like glass compared to the previous ploughed field roughness.

Edit.
If you have taken off too much metal from the top of the trigger spring sear, you can regain some height by thinning the spring ' tail' where it contacts the receiver tang.
