Sig Sauer P226 LBP

24" and less, a place to discuss all things handgun related, section 7.3. Long barrelled revolvers, long barrelled pistols and section 5. Overseas contributions are more than welcome.

I've been offered the chance to join his heritage club, but I really can't get passed it.... It's not just the shooting for me, it's also the joy of ownership. I do have a LBR and I even have a couple of B/P revolvers, but they're mine and they're here. May seem trivial, but it matters, to me...

Anyway, should I ever get over to my sisters in Newtownards, you going to open up your ammo cabinet for me to abuse....?!

Yep, the advert says the 226 is new!

But
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

It's all relative. Don't lose sight of the work Icon have done to get this pistol off the ground. There was a lot of R&D as well as having to source alternative barrels. It's not as simple as comparing like for like and then bitching about it. That doesn't explain how the Volquartsen LBPs from Stockade are always sold out and they are over £2k.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

I agree with Mike357, you cannot compare like with like and the Sig is still the most like the original than any of the other options. Also Icon have now further developed the Sig so the slide stays open after the last shot which involved internal adaption and a new design magazine. This improvement makes it superior to the standard Sig as purchased in the USA, so now looks and acts like it's big brother 9mm plus etc. Any developments like this takes time and money, and has directly improved the pistol.

I would still like someone to answer my very first question ref feed back from any of the current owners of the Icon Sig ?

One of my shooting buddies has had his name on the list since they were first announced and i'm sure at the last PSG session he said he was getting it "in a couple of weeks" so he might have it now. We've got a 2 gun match first week in March so i'd imagine he'll be taking it then. He might even bring it along to PSG this Saturday so i'll watch him shoot it and ask him to describe it.... O:-) lol

EDIT: He got it yesterday :good:

I suspect that the VQ ones are intended more for the target/precision shooters, (same kind of thing that many people dont seem to worry about paying £1500 on a 1022) Ive owned and shot buckmark, gsg and the caledonia arms, buckmark is heavily modified and my own personal favourite, its as capable as my rifle and I love it.

the GSG and CA offerings were hmmm, how to put it politely, not good enough to shoot at 50m with, maybe I just had bad ones? but rested groups at 25m of 2 to 3" hardly inspire confidence

I think that these newer offerings of LBP that look and feel like "proper" pistols are more aimed at the practical shooter market

maybe Im wrong, but I havent seen many of them competing in say, 1500 etc

while I would never pay the prices that these LBP are going for, I can appreciate and I am glad that companies are taking the risk and making them.

I had a good look at the Sig P226 at the shooting show yesterday, I was immediately impressed by the balance of the pistol. It was surprisingly light, felt good in the hand and it didn't feel like an LBP at all. It does feel a bit pricey, but assuming it functions as good as it looks and I was after an LBP, I don't see anything that competes with it.

In the real world of the Uk, if you want to shoot you have to pay. Mike is having to bring in the parts from the US then assemble to the UK spec and like everyone else needs to earn a living. So I still feel it's is the best pistol so far so if you want one you have to pay.

And a little food for thought, when LBR were classified as section 1, it was a hell of a fight. But the Home Office stuck a caveat on them that should the Home Secretary decide this classification of weapon in the UK was deemed "especially dangerous", then an ensuing ban would not pay out compensation. I even have a letter somewhere from my firearms dept that accompanied my first variation for an LBR.

"They" still don't like LBRs. Come the next parliament it is my belief we will have a new firearms act. I'm not looking to dissuade you from acquiring what you want, but despite what you think, there still is a choice ( and a number of places to shoot pistols in the British Isles, not just America....)

i can never understand the home office prats! i take it the the homeoffice has jurisdiction over all countries in the uk (including NI) yet they see not problem the with NI People owning handguns but for some reason the people on the mainland cannot be trusted ?? how can this be ? dont these idiots know that in every single european country, you can own a 9mm pistol without much fuss, with some EU countries having less strict firearms liancing then ours ! and its not the wild west !

i can be trusted to own and keep an ar-10 sharp shooter rifle in 7.62mm designed as a battle rifle from start but cannot be trusted to own a measly 9mm pistol ! can anyone see logic to this !
