About 3 months for my coterminous fac/sgc with Durham in 2011, thought it may have been a bit quicker as I already had my sgc and had previously held both for about 15 years before having a few years off while the kids were little.

Durham Constabulary as a whole and firearms licensing in particular got a right "kicking" from the Horden inquests. A lot of it, justly so! I reckon they'll continue to crawl all over applicants at renewal and grants for a considerable time to come.

For those local to the North East, has a civil claim fro the victims families been filed?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Not as far as I know, Durham were all over Bobby Turnbull (who lost his mum, sister and aunt) and you could almost see the chief constables hand up his bum working his mouth as they appeared in various interviews with him pushing for tougher gun laws and the creation of the now defunct "reporting hotline" in an effort to avert attention away from their own departments failings.

The only thing that happened after the IPPC report was the appointment of a chief inspector (Steve Ball) to oversee the firearms department, that didn't help at all and he's now gone off elsewhere. They are still pushing ahead with "initiatives" to help reduce gun crime and toughen licensing by demanding extra medical forms for all applications and renewals.

One Day, and it was delivered to my door by two nice policemen....It was Renfrewshire and the date was 1968.

Think it was five shillings. 25p.
