Mosin Nagant shim kits????
I've seen some Mosin shim kits available that are said to improve the accuracy by giving the action a firm base in the stock.Has anyone got any experience of these kits?.
Saddler.....you might be able to help as I believe the shims were a Finnish idea

Finns had several areas that were shimmed, not just the bedding, some near the barrel muzzle too.
A common shim material was wood bark. Grows on trees apparently...
Will have a look-see in the reference books.
TOLD YA that Finnish upgrade methods were the ones to go with from the start....

Been looking at the laser cut shims with the cork bedding for the barrel. My 91/30 has shims under the triggerguard/magazine and a cork pad under the upper handguard but it looks as though there should be a shim under the receiver behind the recoil lug and one under the rear tang if the contents of the kits is anything to go by.

I found this picture when I was searching for MN accuracy suggestions a while ago but I must confess to not trying it myself yet.

Looks like a Russian repair for a burst barrel.
The Finns of course would just put their hand over the hole and hold the pressure in with a tight grip.

Ah, the oiled canvas.Apparently it dampens the barrels harmonics much as the cork pads in the shim kits do.dirtydawk wrote:I found this picture when I was searching for MN accuracy suggestions a while ago but I must confess to not trying it myself yet.

Yeah that's what I read on another forum. I gave some thought to having my 91/30 barrel re-crowned as well but I decided to leave it as is. Still good for figure 11's out to 800yds so that'll do for me.snayperskaya wrote:Ah, the oiled canvas.Apparently it dampens the barrels harmonics much as the cork pads in the shim kits do.dirtydawk wrote:I found this picture when I was searching for MN accuracy suggestions a while ago but I must confess to not trying it myself yet.

I did fit a Huber Concepts trigger though and that made a world of difference.
Re: Mosin Nagant shim kits????
Aha! I've just received one of those kits from a Canadian seller on the bay of fleas.
Quality of the kit and instructions are excellent considering it was about £15 delivered.
I've yet to fit and test but I'll report back. Might be a month though, I've not got enough weekends in the month to fit all the shooting in ...
