How about collecting and shooting? If you just put collecting down, so forces might be inclined to not let you shoot them maybe?dave_303 wrote:daman wrote:Stunning collection. What do you put down as "good reason" beyond the obvious "cos they're fsckn lovely"?

I didn't know that, thanks. It sounds excellent *daman starts compiling lists of 'collectables'*
Collecting is seen as a 'good reason'
Who? Me? Really?
Re: Marlinitis...
Yes, collecting can be given as good reason. However, be prepared to explain your rational for you collection. "Coz I want to be a gun collector" perhaps won't cut it. Likewise, I have only collected what I can shoot. There is a shooting condition along with the collecting, but I can only hold a small amount of ammunition in relation to these.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Cheers Neil, but apart from two of the "modern versions" the rest of them are going to be sold to keep the collection as much as possible, pre WW1, as argued by some experts, that was when the "Frontier Era" ended..

What Sim says, it varies from constabulary to constabulary. I apply for my variations as a collector of First and Second World War infantry rifles, I give the reason as collecting/target shooting. Avon & Somerset have been reasonable in this regard, ammo wise I am allowed 600 per calibre, I also remain honest with them and don't take the p***, if I request an authority for something that is not from the above period I give them a damn good reason for it.
