Good point and also how can you get new members of the squad if they don't get a reasonable way to try like I don't know shooting at their LOCAL club?

I have always wondered though why the Team GB pistol shooting team doesn't practice in Northern Ireland though, but I guess this is less of a trek.
Me to, and they would still be in the UK. Maybe Switzerland is more appealing and expensive.
Team members currently spend about 20 to 30 days a year training in Switzerland,

Its baffling also. Even if you wanted somewhere more... whatever you think Northern Ireland is. You can use club guns and its on paper possible to have a NI FAC as a non-resident (probably a hangover from the then Irish Free state came into being, now the EU firearms pass covers that as long we're in the EU). Unless the facilities are better in Switzerland? I can't think you need anything too amazing for 25m pistol and 50m pistol. People do both in the mainland UK using LBP/LBRs. So it cant take anything too difficult to set up.

I bet some police areas are wondering how that got through - as should some club secretaries??
That will/can not happen.
We'll have to wait and see. Lots of things can't happen, but do.
Ok. Show me the legislation that allows section 5 firearms to be rented to non-section 5 RFDs for target shooting. For film production etc, yes. Target shooting, no. Otherwise I rather think there'd be quite a cottage industry of section 5 RFDs doing just that.

Good point, just goes to show that "Public Safety" was never the goal here. But we can live in hop (my version of the bible has misspellings throughout lol ). But you're right cottage industry would have developed and we'd be at least doing some pistol shooting besides black power and LBP.

I suppose you have to consider the motives of the government when passing the 1997 act: they wanted to have appeared to do something and they wanted to remove Handguns from 'normal' owners: that is to say target shooters. That is why there are so many 'other ways' to get access to section 5, which are very restricted (Humane Dispatch etc). As long as Handguns remain very restricted then they have achieved their objective. Bearing this in mind, I cant imagine allowing people to rent Section 5 would ever be legal. I cant imagine a large-scale industry for renting Section 1 would ever happen for that matter.

Better re-boot the imagination then....

It IS possible to rent Section 5.
A lot of my mates do so, most weekends of the year...but for battle re-enactment events.
I was very surprised when I found out it was going on, but its all above board & 100% kosher.

For shooting though; never happen!

Move to the Isle of Man or N.I. for UK pistol shooting.

I did consider buying one of those in my fac-less airgun days as a teen, but I'm glad I didn't. I did not know of the changes in their legal status and would not have known and possibly been in the wrong legally. As fun as they looked, I'm glad I didn't as I wasn't as uk firearms law savvy as I am now.
