FirearmsUK - Unity 2015

Re: FirearmsUK - Unity 2015
Slightly off topic, but germaine to the current theme, I was at the HQ of the National Rifle Association the other day.
I'd popped in to ask about a few things, and one question I asked was, what benefits do I get for membership if I dont live within a reasonable distance of Bisley. (I have a young family and a job, free time is at a premium)
The answer- our insurance is good value.
Yeah, for the first year maybe at £47, once it goes up to £75 after your first year it's not so good.
I'd rather have my BASC insurance!
My colleague was there with me to pay his entry fee for the imperial, over £500, they wanted an extra £20 for him to pay over the counter. Clowns.

Bisley is really a club based out of what is undoubtedly the best facility in the country. I only joined the NRA when I started to attend Bisley regularly and wanted the flexibility of booking ranges etc to suit myself.
Im also with BASC. It has alternatives that are cheaper for insurance but their operations offer very little else. I won't name names as this becomes inflammatory. Not everybody likes BASC but I think they do the best job of representing the sport.

Still some very bitter former pistol shooters out there......shame all shooting disciplines can't get on.....it will be our undoing.....
When someone says "it's not about the money" you know what? it probably is all about money!

Indeed running man, it's something I/We have tried to say from the start and still it seems so many people disagree with the idea of Unity.
I wrote this article for the Shooting Times Times in December 2013 explaining why it is important for people to get on.

A bit harsh.Alpha1 wrote:Your not a club member you don't target shoot. I am a club member of several clubs I do target shoot I do long range shoot. I do shoot shot guns . I am a certificate holder. I have shot .22 pistols competitively. Please naff off and stop wasting my and other forum members time. I don't really care what you believe you are talking out of your arse. Go away and leave us grown ups to make our own mind up.
How about a bit of debate and politeness rather than aggression ?
