If when you have your chat about your variation for a S1 shotgun you are asked about where you plan on shooting it, and you reply with 'a HO approved club' you *will* be pressed for more details.
*Scratches head*.

"Where do you plan on shooting your S1 shotgun?"
"At my club xxxxx, where we have a range that is "cleared" for shotgun slug".

Not really sure what "more details" the FEO would be after, nor what I could give them, nor why that wouldn't be good reason?
While bearing in mind Techguys post above - If a person only wants to shoot their S1 shotgun at their club, which has the relevant clearance, then giving the info above would be fine, HOWEVER that person may find that, that club gets named on their FAC and thats the ONLY club they can shoot it at. :bad:

The reason why the UKPSA used to be named in the condition (apart from being the only official organisation doing PSG at one point), is that it is expected that the person would attend the Basic Safety Course while shooting with the UKPSA. If a similar course is not offered/required by the other organisations now named in the condition then it makes the whole thing a bit pointless.

To clarify; my current NRA-affiliated club does not shoot any type of shotgun discipline.

For clarification, where do you want to shoot PSG?

PSG / Target clubs other than my current Rifle club including, possibly, Bisley.

So if it's at other clubs, I would guess the shoots that you plan on attending are part of a match series? So either UKPSA, or NRA/F4i match series?

I dunno. 'Match series'? I just want to shoot static targets (as opposed to trap/sporting/skeet).

I'm guessing I'd have to join a specific club then, in order to shoot (probably only a few times in a year)?

Not necessarily. You can shoot Open competitions at clubs which offer them (which usually form part of a match series, or league), and you can shoot at club open days if they shoot PSG and have spaces available on those guest days.

Where abouts are you located?

Ok, you have a few choices in that area

Phoenix : Near horsham - shoot matches as part of the NRA shotgun league or join as a club member
Romsey : Next door to airfield in popham nr basingstoke - shoot matches as part of NRA shotgun league or join as a club member
Bisley - Shotgun league matches

If your club is affiliated to the NRA, you can shoot those matches. Dates are all on the NRA calendar. You don't need to have a Safe Shooter Card for Bisley, but you will need to make the match director (james) aware on the day so you can be squadded appropriately.

You do not need to do any safety course for any of the above. However, if you haven't shot PSG before then I would highly recommend some kind of training first, and I would also recommend joining a club who actually shoot PSG. If you don't want to compete, but still want to shoot PSG, then join either Romsey or Phoenix and just go on the practice days.

Oh, and if you do want to join Romsey, they like you to do the UKPSA safety course in your first year of membership. Or at least they did when I was a member.
