I have a Romanian AKM which is very good, I have also fitted a different safety that holds the bolt open as my club required it,........

I took a dremel tool to the safety and cut a notch in it to hold the bolt open.. works a treat.. :)

Here is Bulgarian short barrel under folder from Oleg,Rusmilitary.Currently only AK platform on UK market with milled receiver.I used it first time this month in CSR-Winter Liege, up to 200m,ok.Need more testing-some lacquered cases bounced back/SP'ed,but I was told it could be me....It is weird but nice experience standing on firing line and AR's to the right....and AR's to the left....

I had a look at this one at Olegs recently - very nice indeed.

The milled receiver seems to balance better and of course will be more rigid.

I did think about doing that but wanted to keep the original so I bought one made specially for the job, the only pain was I had to get it parkerized to match the finish.

We tried it at our last shoot, which was unfortunately 600yds and very windy a bit of a challenge with iron sights but by next week it will be scoped and on a 300yd range, I also managed to get some surplus ammunition for £21/100

Wow from where do tell, maybe keep it to yourself, last lot I bought was £25/100 which I thought was cheapish. Seen some for £28/100 Tula made.

With regard to the Romanians.......the AKMS underfolder doesn't come with a mounting rail for an optic as standard, which I don't find a problem as I only shoot the AKs with irons.The fixed stock AKM has an optics rail as standard and has the added benefit that you can "dress it up" how you want as Romanian/East German wire sidefolder stocks will fit as will the Soviet/Russian polymer AK-74 furniture (plum looks nice), East German pebble polymer stock and the usual Soviet laminate.

Both of mine have Soviet-era furniture, the correct Soviet slant muzzle brake, the AKM has a windage-adjustable RPK rear sight (popular mod in Soviet Afghan War) and the AKMS has had a genuine Soviet underfolding stock fitted as the standard Romanian one slopes downwards at an angle and only locks on the left side of the receiver whereas the Soviet stick is parallel with the receiver and locks on both sides.

The Soviet stock mechanism locking pins in the receiver are orientated differently to the Romanian ones and to get it all to fit and work as it should did involve setting about the receiver and rear trunnion with a Dremel but thankfully I got it right first time and the stock rotates perfectly and locks up with no sloppiness in the mechanism.

If you are looking at a Saiga it's worth noting that some have muzzle brakes, some don't and some have magwell dimples and some don't.
The Saiga AK-104 is nice and compact being a carbine and some on the market have a folding stock whereas some have the folding mechanism welded so it cannot close, also the muzzle brake should be pinned and welded on if the stock does fold.
The AK-103 spec Saiga is a nice rifle, some have the Civvy rear sight that is only graduated to 300m whereas some have the 1000m milspec sight leaf.With one of these you're looking for the proper AK-103 muzzle brake to be fitted which has a M24 LH thread.
