The .303 for sporting use

Is anyone using a .303 for Deer these days, they were certainly the go to for Reds in days gone by however I am not personally aware of anyone who still shoots a .303 for Deer these days however must still be some out there.

I ask because I was out with my BSA last night to confirm it still goes bang and enjoyed every minute of it however when I broached the subject of using it as an overland rifle with my FEO a few months ago he pulled a face and pointed out I already had a .308 on ticket for this purpose.

My FEO actually uses the .303! It's been written in many a manual that the .303 Britishbhas probably taken more game than any other cartridge! Your FEO needs "educating"....

The 303 is my red deer cartridge and has been for 50 years. Does the job excellently so never seen the need to use anything else.

My Parker Hale No4 conversion in 303 with a 2.5 Ajack scope has taken thousands of reds, and many other quarry, over the years. It has never failed me.

Sim G I have seen that claim too and although I believe it has merit I suspect that that accolade should go to the humble .22 rim fire.

I recognise that exquisite rifle , it took many deer for me and a good few reds. Having sold it to you I almost immediately regretted it and have acquired another , a Parker- Hale Supreme in almost immaculate condition . It will be exercised on reds shortly ;¬))

I have one of those a No1 Pattern, it was my go to rifle when I used to shoot the running deer at Bisley. It collected the odd gong for me. Pretty good I thought as I only shot it twice a year.
