It is becoming quite difficult to book a target at certain of the Bisley ranges...unable to book a mid week target at 300 yards or 200 yards until July 6th!

I am now advised by mail that recreational shooting at Bisley is not sufficient for renewal of my certification card...have to shoot at least 3 times with the NRA Shooting club (expensive), or shoot in comp or with F Class league. I assumed that regular shooting at Bisley was sufficient.

I think there's some military competition on Century this week....................we could only get 1000yds. Got 600 next week, though........

For your cert. card, you can always part with 30 quid and get someone to watch you fire a few rounds and answer a few questions.........

Are you a member of an NRA affiliated club?

If you're a member of an affiliated club, then they can issue you a certificate.
If you shoot as an individual NRA full member in the presence of a NRA RCO, then I would have thought his/her endorsement should be sufficient to get a renewal.
Otherwise, the NRA have no way of knowing whether or not you're a safe shooter.

When I next shoot at Bisley...July 6th, I will ask the nra office to send over an rco to check that I am a safe shooter...
I suspect the £30 fee would have more importance...or £60 if I want several rifle types on my certificate.

My various clubs do not unfortunately have an nra qualified rco, nor have they adopted the nra "safe shooter" programme.

I believe that the nra certification rules were changed in 2014. I don't' believe I am less safe now than in 2014. I am poorer....

If it's £30 for each type of rifle, it might be worth doing the RCO course............that certificate lasts for 6 years.

Apparently though it doesn't automatically give you a shooters certification card as I found out earlier this year when mine expired and I got in touch with the NRA to send a new one out. had to get one through my club.

Safe enough to run the range, but apparently not to get a shooters certification card sent out.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that you need a shooter certification card, OR be an NRC RCO..??

I must admit, I contacted the NRA for a card when mine ran out because my certifying club didn't have any cards, and they wouldn't entertain the thought of sending me one direct, it had to be through my club.

You are deemed as safe, as you say if you pass the NRA RCO course.
