You can book a certification, its not £30 per cetification, its £30 per range so you can do scoped and iron sights on same day on the same range its one £30 charge, however if you then also want gallery rifle its a different range so another £30 will apply.

If you are an individual member of the NRA and enter an NRA competition (Imperial, Spring action, CSR, Trafalgar etc) then you can apply for a free 4 year SSC Card after the event.

If you are an NRA qualified RCO you dont need a SSC, it can cover all ranges or can be limited to field range or gallery only.

If you are a NRA member and a member of an NRA affiliated club, the club can issue a SSC card for free.

If you are not a member of the NRA but are a member of an NRA affiliated club the club can issue a SSC after paying a fee ~£8 but the club needs to have an approved training course but can simply use the NRA one. Its not hard to do or give.

If your not shooting on a range with an MOD danger area / or an MOD range if a no danger area range then you dont need a SSC.

If you not an NRA member and have no SSC but are shooting at a NRA affiliated club shoot, on an MOD range / danger area you can still shoot but with adequate supervision (thats an elastic term from having the rounds fed in for you to simply being observed 1on1)

If your a FAC holder then you can shot with any NRA affiliated club at Bisley or an MOD danger area range as a guest but will require a level of supervision as above.

& the one that confuses some - there is noting to say a member of a NRA affiliated club cannot be a perpetual probationary member and hold a SSC. i.e. to facilitate a shooter with say a learning disability. RCO supervision alone may be sufficient to support them.

The NSRA SSC is worth diddley squit.

I had no idea that you could obtain a free 4 year ssc by shooting in one competition...this must be buried somewhere in the nra download smallprint. I must enter a comp asap...

I understood that an nra affiliated club could only issue an ssc if it had signed up to the nra safe shooter scheme.

It would certainly be a help to have all of the ssc rules and regs, clearly stated in one nra document.

I have the NRA RCO qualification and am a member of two affiliated clubs (plus the NRA).

Although my clubs can both issue SSCs I get mine from the NRA by virtue of the RCO qualification.

I'm not a member of the NRA, which might be why they didn't want to provide me with one and had to get it through associated club...

Hang on, so does all that mean than an NRA RCO could hire whatever they wanted from the NRA armoury without presenting an SCC, only thier RCO Card?

Holding a RCO card is the equivalent of s SSC. I process all the renewals for our Club RCO'S and have to sign a declaration as below which is not much different from what is signed on a SSC when they are renewed by a club.

I confirm, to the best of my knowledge, that the above named RCO is a full member of the Club/Association and is able to carry out the duties of an RCO safely and efficiently. During the last 12 months he/she has been an active RCO for the club on the following categories of ranges: Please tick the relevant box(es)

Small-bore & Full-bore Rifle
Moving Target/
Heritage Pistol
Sporting Rifle
Muzzle Loading Rifle
Pistol Gallery Rifle/Pistol
High Muzzle Energy (CF)

So what you are doing is moaning that the NRA has reduced the amount of paper work clubs do.

Also when we issue a SSC to a member of our club the NRA do not charge us for the card this is reflected in the capitalisation charge each renewal.
FWIW it cost clubs £8.85 per card for non NRA members.
