Shooting with Multifocal contacts

After many years with daily disposable contact lenses I have just started a 5 day trial with Multifocal contact lenses. So far everything seems fine however I am yet to shoot with them, does anyone on the forum use such things?

I think you have to specify which eye you want the multifocal lens in as one is always set to either long or short.

The lenses are basically a long distance centre with a reading outer, a bit like a polo and you can actually see the two lenses if you look carefully when it is on the end of your finger.

My right eye has got a bit worse over the years and I was at the stage where if I had fully corrected vision I got not see a thing close up with my right eye and everything felt a bit out of balance, these things have sorted that issue perfectly. Yesterday just wandering around was OK although I ended up with a slight headache at the end of the day (I tend to wear my contacts for 16-17 hours) Today I am on the machines again which will be interesting.

My correction with the new contacts is L -6.0/+2.0 and R -9.0/+2.0 so reasonably strong prescription.

I use them with my full bore target rifle
a lot better than varifocal glasses, no frames you can read small print (see ammunition and score)
see distance (front element)
and at around £1.33 a pair reasonably priced (I wear them once a week)
The optician at specsavers was a little clueless but passed me onto a contact lens girl
she was brilliant as she did archery and understood the length of my barrel and the necessary focusing distance

gordocar, do you notice any distortion when wearing them? General close up is OK although I will be working with bifocal safety specs which might be a problem, within the house is OK as well however I have a vague feeling of things being slightly distorted, hopefully I will get over that. Not sure I am quite ready to head out on the motorbike wearing them at this point in time.

One thing I will test this morning is my 22-250 'scope. I have had to adjust it to the stop to compensate for my under corrected right eye so it will be interesting to see how things look through it with the new contacts.

Let us know how you get on, I'm thinking about doing the same as my glasses keep getting in the way when I'm prone.

The other option for me is "snooker" glasses, I've seen some stupid prices but eventually found these at £59.97 so may give them a try,

I have always worn regular contact lenses for shooting, just like you Ovenpaa I wear mine around 17 hours per day.

I found that all I needed to do was adjust the diopter on my scopes and all would be fine. With regards to open sights, I don't have a problem with focusing on the front sight and my grouping tends to be OK so no complaints. I have no idea what difference there will be with varifocals.

Scopes and my camera are great once the dioptre is adjusted back, the plus side is you can see through every ones scope as well
I have no distortion when using them and not shooting in fact peripherel vision comes back no sides of glasses
I do have distortion with my varifocal glasses
I have through force of habit put glasses on when wearing the lenses and you cant see a thing
It was described to me that your brain does the work you see two images all the time and your brain chooses the sharp one

One thing I had not realised is images halve in size for every -1.0 added to your prescription yet the brain compensates for it, all rather clever stuff. I just checked with my safety bifocals and I can still use them for really close up stuff which is good.
