Getting a New Gun Delivered RFD to RFD

#1 Post by Quarters »

Hi All
Hope you can help.
I want to buy a new gun but the gun I want is with an RFD a long way from me.
Can it be sent from the RFD I'm buying it from to a local RFD? If so what happens to my FAC? Do I have to send it in the post to the RFD I'm buying from who'll send it with the gun to my local RFD?

Thanks for any help.

From my understanding you give the RFD number, name and address of your receiving RFD to the RFD you are purchasing from (or they may contact them directly) and when you go to the receiving RFD to pick up the firearm they will ensure you have the relevant slot for the calibre and type etc and enter it on your FAC.

I have always given the RFD I have purchased from my details including FAC number etc for their records.

No the seller must enter the rifle onto the purchasers FAC not the transferring RFD, there is a long thread on this at the top of this forum on this subject and how it should be legally done, see here:

Also just giving RFD address and numbers is very poor practice, you need to arrange for the the RFDs to exchange copies of their certificates.

I've transferred dozens of firearms and never had sight of the seller. The RFD's exchange certificates and the gun is given to the sending RFD. it is then part of their stock and off your ticket. They then send it to the receiving RFD who puts it into their stock. The receiving RFD can then transfer it to your ticket like a normal sale. I know shops that have transferred thousands of guns this way.

If in doubt, ask your licensing authority.

Safetyfirst, this is no longer a lawful method of transferring firearms. The owner/keeper must enter the transfer to the new owners/keepers FAC

That is illegal even although it has been custom and practice in the trade to do as you have described.

Firearms certfication, BASC and the GTA all say that it must be done as I have described. I have been instructed by my licensing authority to do it this way and to inform them of any dealer/other certification authority that isn't complying, so at present it very much looks as though the powers that be are strictly implementing the law as they see it.

Have you read the Distance Selling thread? Their position is clearly laid out there and it is incumbent upon us all to comply.

Fortunately a thread on FBUK does not constitute firearms law.
