All sorted. I shall carry on as usual.

Do share please?

Is it someone from the legal profession, the Home office, the GTA, BASC or the licensing authorities?

It would be far easier to do it as has been going on that what is being suggested so if this knowledgeable person outranks those above I'd love to speak with them for their direct opinion and how they are going to support your challenge of the process.

Or is it just someone who you have happened to have found who agrees with you?

During the to-ing and fro-ing of this thread, several thoughts have crossed my mind... forgive me if i haven't got this right..

So if you're buying from a private seller, you have to send your FAC to them to fill in..??
A. I'd be VERY reluctant to send my FAC to someone i don't know. It gives them my name, address, and a list of the guns that can be found at that address.
B. Once they have filled in your FAC and officially transfered ownership to you, are they then in illegal posession of a firearm..?

Assuming nothing un-toward happens, they then take the firearm to their local RFD, who transfers it to your RFD. Hopefully, by this time you have recieved your FAC back from the seller, so you go to your local RFD and collect the firearm, showing the entry on your FAC as proof of ownership.

So, whats the difference between this, and asking your RFD to order you a firearm from an importer.... you're buying a firearm from the distributor, using the RFD as an intermediary, but you wouldn't send your FAC to Edgar Bros or Viking Arms... your RFD will get the gun and they will enter the details on your FAC...

To my (simple) mind, this new "enforced" method is a greater security risk that the old relaxed version...

For what its worth .

It seems that one or more dealers asked the GTA for clarification on the method of transfer . This was done either because a local Firearms Office was not happy with things or the dealers concerned felt they were not getting a slice of the pie in the transfer market .

The GTA and the BASC brought the matter up at a BSSC meeting for discussion .

The BSSC took legal advice that confirmed the ways some dealers handled a transfer was not in compliance with the Act .

So unless the Home Office makes changes dealers and shooters are stuck with it .

Unless some clever sod can come up with a way around it !

Daryll, you are spot on and in theory you will be out of pocket and without an FAC at one point, worse still your FAC is returned with your new firearm neatly entered onto it and no sign of it in your cabinet which would be interesting in the event of a spot check. Unfortunately this is the law and has been for many years regardless of how it is interpreted by some RFD's and FAC owners.
