Moving house

#1 Post by @nd »

Hi all
I am thinking of moving house and it will be out of one licencing authority to another.
On my FAC I have 8 slots and they are all filled.
I shoot most rifles regularly but 3 don’t get used very often because of their age.
Is it possible the new licencing authority could reduce the number of rifles I can own or do they have to honour my existing FAC as long as the security in my new house is suitable.

I wouldn't give them the opportunity to review your ticket.

I haven't moved house across forces, but when I moved house in area I emailed them giving the date of the move, ticket number, old and new address and a statement confirming that the security arrangements in place met or exceeded those previously agreed. I also invited them to visit to review the arrangements but wasn't taken up on it.

If the new force want detailed info they can contact your existing authority and ask for it...

Everything is possible, but you can help yourself out by volunteering enough info for them to see that you're on top of the situation.

Your existing FAC has been granted as you meet all the necessary criteria

Move & inform the new bods that you need them to update your FAC to reflect your new address.
(I'd have all cabinets in place & any other arrangements made prior to asking for the address update)

The only issues I have experienced was a mate moving from Devon to Scotland - they wiped a few of his open slots, bumped down his ammo quantities, etc.
No real surprise there...it's what they like to do up here

I had issues with my move. Partly because i moved twice in their eyes. The new region treated me as they would a renewal just with no paperwork. They would not post out my new fac. I had to give them my old ticket. They did me a new one and gave it to me when they had checked my security i lodged my guns for the duration of the move

I moved from west mids to Lincolnshire
Moved guns etc on day of move , fitted cabinets in new house same day informed both forces by email few days later
Took Lincs 3 months to visit me with new FAC in hand checked security and handed over ticket as per previous force including empty slot for 308 ( now filled)

Don't give up any guns - it only encourages them to look at what you have left! lol lol

I was thinking of posting a similar thing shortly but I think this has covered what I need to know.
I will be moving counties shortly (hopefully) and wasnt sure if I would have to lodge guns with RFD while the move was in progress.
If I fit the cabinets at new address on date of move then inform both forces after that then that will suffice ?

Actually there is no requirement to inform both forces of the change of address only the issuing authority of your FAC. You may have moved into a different police authority area but your FAC is still valid, though for the sake of neatness the area to which you have moved like to replace your existing FAC with one of their own. BASC used to have an information page on their website detailing the process so it may be worth looking it up.

I knew that I didn't have to have certificate replaced by Lincs to stay legal but I wanted AOLQ stipulated on all my firearms which I couldn't get west mids to do even though I requested it on my last renewal but knew it wouldn't be an issue over here
