BASC supports NABIS

If Bill Harriman was a gunshop , I would have to say .............As I've yet to have a 'positive' experience there, I'll refrain from commenting further.

I don't agree with an organisation such as NABIS working with the home office to change legislation. I thought they would be a neutral forensic entity. They can do the detective work and produce data but it isn't their role to affect legislation in my opinion.

I have two questions:

With regards to restrictions on antiques, is this all that has been done, or were there more restrictions:

NABIS has been working with the Home Office to change legislation, introduce tighter controls and close the loopholes which once allowed antique weapons to potentially be used for criminal purposes.
New legislation introduced in July 2014 means someone who has served or received a criminal sentence can no longer possess an antique firearm.

Martin Parker, Lead Forensic Scientist at NABIS, said: "The technology in these weapons has not changed for a century or more. An antique weapon can still be lethal but it is classified as a collector's piece with no formal requirement for it to be registered.
"The problem occurs when criminals find they cannot get new weapons from outside of this country. It would be fair to say we have seen an emerging increase in the use of these antique guns.

What I would like to know is whether anyone tried to get the actual numbers out of NABIS? I mean, the numbers of crimes committed with antiques?

I'd question their source of info. & accuracy (validity) of what they are classing as a "firearm"

I find it interesting to reflect upon how our "national" bodies operate in the same way as our governing "elite". Removed from the needs of the people they purport to represent and live in a self serving environment created by "experts". Obviously Harriman, and his ilk, has more in common with his brother and sister "experts" in NABIS than the membership of BASC.

However I doubt that BASC, NRA and the other failed organisations that are letting legal gun owners across the country down on a daily basis will ever have their Brexit or Trump moments of revelation.

We are all more likely to sink together in a total ban moment.

Extremely helpful of the NABIS website to draw attention to the need for extra vigilance on the part of certificate holders following the recent "gun attacks" in Europe.
HAD thought the recent attacks in Europe were "terrorist attacks" personally. Wasn't aware of the instigators having gun club membership, or legal ffirearms.
Still, never waste an opportunity to make spurious links where none exist.
