I would write formally to the Chief Officer of the FLO for the force asking that the arbitrary reduction is reversed & your original allowance reinstated. Give then a deadline to reply to do that & suggest after which you may take the matter to a formal appeal if necessary. Also ask for the reason for disallowing the requested increase to be explained in writing.

I dont believe they have the right to arbitrarily reduce your allocations without good, just cause and notice, they also have to advise why they are not refusing a reasonable request, so ask for them to define that or allow it. Be polite, formal & firm. Also if your file has no notes why? & then there is no reason to stay with the reduction nor disallow the increase. That's unacceptable process on their part.

Copy it to your contact for firearms liaison for the club and or NRA / BASC?

Did you keep a copy of the variation request form (always do)? if so send it in again (or write it out again) with the letter & say the application you paid for has not been completed.

Stand up dont accept it. Say you will send in the FAC when the replacement is ready but you need it because of the reduce allowance to buy ammo & to buy the 2nd 22 rifle.

You could publish their replies here.............
Quality control of Scottish Ethanol. & RDX/HMX

& my fav chemical is :-) 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.......... used to kill frogs.... but widely consumed & in vast quantities by the French? Eh?

Sent off a letter to the licensing manager during the week there along with a copy of my previous and current FAC. I've hung on to my FAC for now as I'll obviously need it in the meantime, especially since I wasn't given any timescale for my issue to be resolved.

We'll see what happens next. If I don't hear anything back after a while I'll get on to BASC and see what they have to say about it. Thanks for the help and advice so far guys.

How much ammo had you had listed as purchased on your FAC when it went in for renewal?

I am aware of someone who only bought ammo from the club on the day they shot and never had it recorded on their FAC as a purchase. Because of this, their allocation for .22lr was dropped from 1600 to 600 (if I recall correctly) when they put in for renewal.

It wasn't even in for renewal, it was in for an address change and variation. It had 1000 rounds on it when it went in, but part of the variation was to increase the allowance to 1500 as I was also applying for another .22 rifle (as well as a few others things).

I have taken to keeping an electronic copy of my FAC in full as evidence of a previous holding. It also pays to do the same with your driving licence, I read of a motorcycle instructor and member of the advanced institute for may years who moved home and applied for a new drivers licence with his updated address. All good so far until he was pulled by the police who upon checking his licence noted he was not licensed to ride a motorcycle. It cost him a significant fine, points and he had to resit his licence. The DVLA flatly denied that he had ever had a full licence and he had no evidence to prove it.

Keep a copies of your important documents, you never know when you might need them

That's correct, apparently the DVLA don't keep any records of driving tests you have passed. I also know of someone who's licence came back with Class 1 heavy goods added when he'd never driven anything bigger than a Mini!

Great idea, I keep a folder with copies of my old FAC's and my current one just to be on the safe side. Comes in handy for times like this. I should really scan them all though and keep an electronic copy too.

I use my phone to photograph all my important document like my FAC, purchase notifications, car documents, passport and so on then they are uploaded to iCloud which means I can get to them from anywhere in the world that's got an Internet connection or a mobile phone signal. It's all behind strong passwords as well.

Possibly if they knew my password but that's just the same as online banking or any other online services.
