European Commission bans: AR15/AK47 rifles and magazines

Theres no mention of calibre in that write up. Will this affect centrefire calibres only or rimfire too?
It says "semi-automatic assault weapons derived from the “AK 47 Kalashnikov family” and the “AR 15 family” so that to me states if it looks like those two platforms then its banned whether its a rimmy or full bore?
I'm on the lookout for an AR.22 and no-one has them in stock, is that because they are scared of being caught with loads of AR's they will get confiscated?

The search facility on that site for AR 15 brings up zero for sale. I've called many companies round the UK for a CMMG AR and all say the same. Even the ones who advertise them as in stock dont have any which really gets my back up

Try someone like North West custom parts and possibly the feeling that Hillary would win might mean alot of sales were gear towards the US, but as we all know that didn't work out (US companies were certainly planning for a Hillary panic buying spree as the stock of the likes of Ruger and Smith and wesson went down when the results became clear). So it could be that we're seeing the end result of a build up from US companies for an event that didn't happen (this hasn't just happened with us, Canada also suffered) and will take a while to get back (also lots of stuff only arrives in certain shipments and CMMG sounds like a situation that may occur in).

The most important thing is though, at this moment in time is............ are rimfire AR's included in a potential ban? even though we are not in the EU (supposedly) anymore. All though we left the EU (supposedly) I'm sure that won't count when any gun related banning is on the cards anyway.

This kind of crap is why people voted to leave the EU.

The British government have already banded semi / auto fullbore rifles, handguns etc, leaving Europe wont change that. As far as strict firearms laws are concerned us leaving will be doing firearms owners in the EU a favor.

Yes, but the proposed EU directive (the recent one that was thwarted in part) would have restricted us even more.

That doesn't mean we should ignore further restrictions being proposed by Brussels. If they had their way, my BR99 shotgun would be banned and also the SIG522 I owned at the time.

While that is true, and the manner of our leaving is still quite uncertain, I would be very surprised if any new directives get brought into UK law from now on. But I will still be complaining about this, having taken possession of one of Mr Bradley's very fine BAR-15s and wishing to keep it.

The recent terrorist murders weren't committed with converted civvy versions of Ar-15s or AK47s but fully-automatic illegally obtained military versions that thanks to Mrs Merkel's precious Schengen Agreement the terrorists could transport freely across Europe from the Balkans to Paris and Brussels.

I wrote to a clutch of MEPs recently making much the same points as above. To her credit, one of them, Catherine Bearder replied within hours. Her reply follows:

Thank you for your email about changes to firearms regulation in the European Union (EU).

Concerns about the impact that a revised EU Firearms Directive could have on legal owners of guns in the EU, such as sport shooters, hunters, collectors and museums, were voiced by MEPs in Internal Market Committee’s debate on the proposal recently.

MEPs said that the changes they will table to the Commission’s text will aim to make it clearer and to ensure that the revision is proportionate. While some MEPs pointed out that terrorists do not usually acquire weapons via legal channels, many recognised that an update could usefully close loopholes in the current firearms directive.

The Chairman of the Internal Market Committee, who will steer the legislation through Parliament, said the Commission’s proposal "is poorly drafted" and "needs a lot of work". She regretted the lack of an impact assessment and cited concerns expressed to MEPs by legal owners. Deactivation, draft provisions to ban semi-automatic weapons that "resemble" full automatics, authorisation conditions, convertibility into live firearms, distance or online sales and safe storage were among the topics discussed by MEPs. They said they wished to strengthen the good parts of the revision, but to get rid of those that create disproportionate burdens for law-abiding citizens.

The Internal Market Committee has now held a public hearing on this proposal, at which experts and stakeholders stated their views and express their concerns to MEPs. Before the Firearms Directive can become law, both MEPs and the European Council (Heads of Government or Ministers from each Member State) will have to agree to it – so we are along away from any changes coming into effect.

Finally, my colleagues in the Liberal Group and I completely agree with you about Europe’s border. We believe the EU should have a border and coast guard to protect and patrol Europe’s border.
