“When I mentioned the fact that I was a MP it was suggested that if the Government gave the force some more money they might be able to get these things done more quickly.”
Brilliant response! clapclap

Fixed title

He's lucky not to be facing criminal charges.
HE fails to submit renewal forms, certificates expire....so the police are to blame?

Forget who he is and the fact that he'd forgotten. Leave aside the natural dislike of a politician. The fact remains he's right - there's no good reason for them to take this long for an established FAC holder. The police are paid the going rate to do a simple job - hiding behind cuts is just an excuse. Thames Valley are even worse - I'm ten weeks into a wait for a simple and unremarkable variation. A friend of mine is into a ten month wait for a renewal it just isn't bloody good enough.

I don't know how they can keep track of renewals that are in the system for ten months.

^ This..

The fact he is a politician and an idiot is the only reason this is in the paper.

As FAC holders, the only thing we shoud be getting our knickers in a twist is the 16 week wait. If this was any of us posting on the forum we would be sympathetic.

But no, lets hassle a fellow shooter instead. Maybe the way he went about it is wrong, but at least he is a shooter which is more than can be said for most politicians.

If you've been involved with firearms licensing since the governments austerity measures then you should know the score. This bloke didn't. Now he wants something done about it. Obviously our plight over the term of his licences hasn't bothered him, but now the police are utterly incompetent!

He failed. His parties policies have failed the police and the rest of the public sector. But when 999 calls are going unanswered because there are literally no officers to answer them, how important are FAC renewals in the big scheme of things?

I've just been issued with temporary permits for my FAC and SGC...... they're valid for a year. 20% the life of a certificate is not temporary, but what do we really expect when police funding has been reduced by 20% since 2010 and this actually equates to more like 30% in real terms, so I'm told.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

I thought it was supposed to be self financing isn't that why we recently had the increases in licence fees. As far as I'm aware my licencing department is a department on its own. Most of if not all the staff are Civilians. I don't think any of the serving officers are involved in licencing.
As an aside my licencing department is brilliant but that has not all ways been the case. My Authority had a really bad name until they employed a dedicated fire arms licencing officer who is ex military. My recent renewal took about ten days.
