It's the USA, they haven't gone metric yet so they don't do "mm" :)

But strangely most of their Coke, Fanta, Sprite etc. bottles are now marked in L or ml, go figure!

Err what have mil and mm got to do with each other??? Unit of angle & unit of length!

Yanks also use mils, ask any gunner!

Milliradians - I'm assuming some people think "mil" is short for millimeter - but it's not in this context.

I meant having the firearm at such an angle that the end of the barrel was raised more then 70mm above horizontal. I really do know the difference between measurements of length and angle (honestly).

I meant the 'normal' "70 mil" rule in rifle shooting (in this Country), ie keeping the rifle barrel within 70 milliradians of horizontal (~ 4 degrees)

nice usefull term for beginners, so i assume 70mil over 1m length of rifle makes sense and equals that the barrel shouldn't be 70mm higher than the butt?

if it is, it sounds sensible if you are shooting at 1000yrds

but for under 10 yards i think that's a bit overkill as the backstop is a lot bigger there

"Always keep your muzzle pointing at your target" is perhaps a simpler rule.

Changing "70 mil" to a more relaxed interpretations at shorter ranges would just introduce more confusion and bad habits.

No real reason not to apply the same rule everywhere?

yes, agree with muzzle in correct direction.

using milradians is confusing as depending on length of rifle it means a different height.

Oundle are strict on muzzle control, but also look at it sensibly.

If I were shooting prone with a sling, not sure i could even get the rifle into my shoulder without lifting the muzzle less than 3" in relation to the butt, but the bolt would be open and not closed on a round unless pointing at the target
