I've seen smaller independent locksmiths operate from units at car boot sales

May be worth looking someone like that out?

Failing that, local independent blacksmith/hardware type shops. There is one where I live & he is a fraction of the cost of the Timpson type key cutters

Tried that didn't have the blanks, similar £ to Timpsons chain - who said not 'even worth asking us mate we are so expensive'... they weren't kidding!

I've found the problem is referring to your cabinets as "safes" that magic word bumps up the price considerably. So on no account use the word "safe"! I also had one locksmith get all officious with me, insisting he had to write down my name and address in a register; like that was going to happen. Gun cabinet are just tin boxes in my opinion and don't warrant being considered a "safe". So the last time I had some cut I didn't say what they were for and just got charged as per a door key.

Typical price is around £12 a key for that type of key from a large local locksmith. Timpsons and local hardware shops that cut keys are unlikely to have the necessary blank but a good locksmith will normally have the blank unless it is a specialised high security lock in which case the blank will be by special order and certain security checks will need to be made.

Most gun cabinet locks are not very special and are not usually regarded as being high security locks.

Couple of years ago I thought I'd lost my spare set of Bratonsound keys so phoned Bratonsound up - they sent out two blanks for the main locks with no problem, they wouldn't supply the ammo compartment key as they come matched to the lock so they don't have blanks. Can't remember for sure but I have a feeling they sent them free of charge.

1st Timpsons I asked wouldn't cut them but 2nd one I tried said they'd have a go but couldn't guarentee the results.

Then I found my spares 8-) 8-) 8-)

So....if you know the manufacturer - might be worth a call.....

You need to think safes & vault not Timpson's & front door.
A good safe & vault person will be able to get a blank & cut key or offer you alternative lock.
Typically the internal ammo safe is a not much more than a Lowe & fletcher locker lock their website has full details they are about £9 if I remember right.
I have found sometimes its cheaper to get a new lock & keys.

Any good guild of master locksmith company that does safes should be able to help
A company like below wont be cheep but will give you an idea of what to look for
