Home Bargains ones have a plastic stick also........the stick is thin walled and hollow and can be used to make a longer front sight post for a Mosin
When I used to be a scaffolder I did a job (no pun intended!) at a sewage treatment works and there was a massive concrete tank where the raw sewage arrived and it had thousands of cotton buds floating in it.

We used to get all our Tomato plants from sewage works, handy places if you know anyone working there
Those sewage farm cotton bud stems you will find get made into toothpicks
People put all sorts down the bog cos they are too idle to bin it.
Some put things down the bog out of necessity though, like my mate who crapped himself in Seacroft Tesco's and flushed the "full" crackers down the pot, cleaned up, put his trousers back on and came back to work.
My Mrs buys these for applying makeup, they aren't cheap but they are perfect for cleaning inside receivers etc and more versatile that a standard cotton bud......
