I have spoken to BASC about this and they are looking into it and will speak to the Met. I will wait to hear back from them and see what has been said, then maybe mention it when I have the opportunity to speak with the Commissioner and her Deputies and Assistants in a few weeks time

There is also the Data Protection Act to consider ...

Who died & left BASC as THE single voice of UK shooters?
Who do BASC think they are, the NRA?
If a shooter under the Met catchment area chooses to complain, then have at it!

I don't trust ANY supposed national organisation to represent ME.
BASC especially....those muppets cannot even give correct interpretation of UK legislation.

I pay BASC to advise me and represent me and in this instance they are in a lot better position to complain that an individual. If I call, it will be an answer phone or clerical assistant and I will spend a long time trying to get through to someone in authority. BASC will go straight in at Chief Superintendent or Commander level - would you or I be able to do that today? NO.

It could just as easily be any of the other organisations ...

Yes, I will raise it at the highest level face to face in a few weeks.

When West Mids and Staffs combined they sent out all their letter in envelopes emblazoned with the departments name right across the front of the envelopes, a quick word stopped that.

So potentially a scrote that works for the mailing company will have access to a complete list of all addresses in the Met area where firearms are kept.

i work in a mailhouse, they do an awful lot of santander billing, no one is interested in what is in peoples bank accounts or where they live. this would be far more likely to be of interest to criminal individuals, rather than the one off job that mentions firearms.

Aside from anything else, what additional security would dabbing some tracable liquid on firearms do in the situation where they are stolen?

Firearms related crimes carry a mandatory minimum of 5 years, so being caught with it whether it's got smart water or not, would get you in deep doo-doo. Do they think criminals would be put off by them being marked with tracable liquid?

The security ramifications of this are astounding though. You're right. A list of firearms owners not just to the third party company, but also to every mail handler that saw these posters going out. Disgusting.

The 5 year mandatory sentencing applies to Section 5 firearms offences only, simple possession of a S1 or S2 firearm without authorisation or exemption carries a 6 month sentence, or fine, depending on the circumstances.

I can only presume this is marketed for firearms so they can be traced if the scrote stealing it files off the serial number, rather than as a preventative measure.

Pretty sloppy on the Mets behalf though. I'd be interested to know who actually paid for the leaflets to advertise a private business by a public body??

OK, for those of us not in the Met area (thanks be to Allah), what is posted? There is an offer of smart water for firearms, but it is in an envelope and hidden presumably. Is the communication printed in the mail shot factory and put in envelope in said place, or do they collect envelopes from police already sealed...like a private postal service. I am not familiar with the operation.
