Home Insurance
Well, it's that time of year again - home insurance due next week.
I have obtained my FAC since took present policy out last year and purchased 3 firearms to go with 3 shotguns already possessed. Also reloading so have powder at home.
Do people have the above listed on their policies? Any recommendations for companies?
I am looking around anyway as with Direct Line at present and they have kindly sent renewal through with a 30% increase!!

I have not listed the powder but have some firearms on the policy due to value. However if none of yours exceed the single item limit just regard them as sporting goods and shop around. I am happy with Liverpool Victoria.

Re: Home Insurance
Give John Lewis a go............£270 for the current year for my old 3 bed semi, buildings and contents all-in. Contents unlimited, buildings unlimited.....no need to spell everything out. 3K single item limit for all risks, and new for old.
I switch between Direct Line and John Lewis a year about. They have no notion of customer loyalty, so as with AA and RAC, you have to go through the tedious crap each year of looking for the offers for new customers.
It's also worth haggling. I got £100 knocked off over the phone a couple of years ago by simply telling my insurer that I'd found a better deal.

Re: Home Insurance
The above sounds familiar...
I switched at the start of the year from Tesco (where some of my items were disclosed as they were above the declare threshold) to another company where the limit was higher. I still rang them to confirm this though.
Both were 100k policies, just to avoid any later argument on possible claim.
The above switch saved £200 on contents cover alone... Just as switching my car last month on renewal saved another £100.
The annoying thing with the car was that my old policy was underwritten by the same company that I switched to. I rang the old, they asked what I wanted, I said price match, they said no so I replied "cancel the renewal then"... and that was the end of that conversation. aaarggh

Re: Home Insurance
If you are in the NSRA or others then you get cover for your guns (up to £10k for all risks with the NSRA).

Re: Home Insurance
It is not just about having the guns covered, if not disclosed to the insurance company then it is a get out clause for them if something happens that can be tied in with the firearms.
Say someone broke in specifically to steal your firearms, damaged the front door, broke the vase, you can't claim for the damage done because you did not disclose you had firearms in the house.

Re: Home Insurance
Interesting subject... I keep meaning to check my polices seeing that I have roughly 20k worth of guns..... more concerned with fire than theft.

Re: Home Insurance
Give Hiscox a go they are happy to offer a general house & contents policy if you own firearms.
Re: Home Insurance
We went with NFU a couple of years ago-no raised eyebrows, sweating, heart palpitations or running off to find a safe room when I mentioned that I wanted to insure a bunch of rifles. The folks in the local office were great and the coffee was good too. Quote came in over £200.00 cheaper than Barclays and Aviva (previous insurers) so I decided to also insure the dog while I was there-good job too as 5 weeks later she cut one of her pads badly on a flint, chasing a hare! Nearly £700.00 in vets bills sorted without any fuss.
