I thought the usual grant for .22 on first application was around 1000?

All depends on what Force you come under and what reason you give for the amount of Ammo wanting to be acquired. Competition/Vermin etc.

And as mentioned make sure you have a fully stocked brew kit and biscuits

Lancs told me guidance was a allowance of 1200 .22lr, but will allow more on initial grant if you have good reason (mini rifle). I was allowed 1500 straight away because 'you could easily go through 500 a night with a semi auto'.

It's all bollox - Derbyshire told me guidance was 500 and knocked me back from 1k! I put in a variation a few months later and upped it to 1k with no dramas though.
I cannot see the slightest reason to restrict ammunition holding.

The problem with 500 is you have 200 in the cabinet and you cannot buy a brick. 1200 is reasonable as it means I can have 200 left and buy a brick for me, and one for Mrs Hrun when I am passing the shop.

I would hold out if the Feo tried to reduce it.

Would it be worth asking for 1500 so they can knock you down to 1000-1200?

Lancs knocked me down from 1200 22lr to 600
400 to 250 on each 38/357
Thats on a grant with 2 muzzleloaders and shotgun cert.
I have had both shotgun and FAC before but it is some years
back and I doubt it made any difference, my thoughts were that
the guy just wanted to get a feeling if you were unlikely to cause
any problems if the certs were granted.
It was a painless and friendly procedure, nothing to worry about.

It's worth knowing what competitions you will be shooting, are they just club comps or does your club have club v club comps, are there any area competitions such as county comps, are you intending to compete at The Phoenix next year. Be able to describe the different classes such as iron sight and optical sight and the courses of fire.
If you are able to demonstrate that you're really keen to shoot most weekends, using say 100 rounds a time, but cannot get to an ammo supplier that easily then that helps to justify the 300 rounds you've put in for in fact you might ask them if you could up it for the lever actions to 500.

300 might be a problem for the lever actions, depending whether you can buy say 38spl/357 ammo from your club on club nights/shoots?
Of course if you are going straight into re-loading the pistol calibres right away it won't be a problem.
I know people than can burn through 100-150 rds of 38/357 on a shoot with a levergun quite easily.
You should have an idea by now from your club meets what your likely to use per meeting per calibre?

The Met happily sanctioned 600rds of .22RF, 400 rds of .303 and 500 rds of .45LC on my initial grant.
