Is pigeon shooting good reason for FAC shotgun?
Seeing as I've got some land to shoot over now and plan to decoy some pigeons on there I was wondering if pigeon shooting is good reason to request a slot for a section 1 shotgun?
Re: Is pigeon shooting good reason for FAC shotgun?
Some shooters are granted section 1 shotguns for pest control, but the circumstances would have to be very different to some casual pigeon shooting. The arguement would be, that if people with doubles or three shot semi's/pumps manage bags into the hundreds then why would you need more cartridge capacity?Gazza wrote:Seeing as I've got some land to shoot over now and plan to decoy some pigeons on there I was wondering if pigeon shooting is good reason to request a slot for a section 1 shotgun?

My S1 Shotgun was granted for 'Vermin' and I was not specific and when the FEO visited he did not ask further.

Vermin control is good reason, that is the most common reason for an fac shotgun
Re: Is pigeon shooting good reason for FAC shotgun?
Does anyone have slug allowed for Vermin?
Re: Is pigeon shooting good reason for FAC shotgun?
For boar. And in parts of Kent and Susssex they are akin to vermin....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Is pigeon shooting good reason for FAC shotgun?
My initial s1 shotgun grant to allow me to keep my old 5 shot when the law changed was "for the destruction of pests". Stated like that until about 10 years ago when I got the condition changed to allow target and clay shooting with it as well
Had to make sure I destroyed them and not just killed them.

I got my first FAC shotgun for pest control (pigeons) at the time though I was a member of NPPC which has access to large amounts of land for pest control and the objective is to cull every pigeon you see to protect crops rather than 'a bit of sport'
