The chances are that this proposal was drafted some time ago. It's publishing yesterday would have been the Home Office seeing the events in LA as an opportune political moment to further their aims.

.50 cal rifles (material destruction) as termed, have been on the governments radar for some time! They were a feature of the last public consultation a decade or so ago, for those that remember that event.

Make no bones about it, this is opportunist as far as government is concerned. The plan was to bring forth legislation that would attempt to deal with the scum using acid in the recent spate of attacks. Kindred legislation around knives is an easy correlation. Now that the Las Vegas shooting has occurred, it is not a chance to squander.

The organisations will do little. There are still those involved in every aspect of shooting who believe one gun type or another has no "use in civilian hands". The only chance, and it's very slim, is that MPs and the Home Secretary is lobbied. But, because of events, government will have the suppprt of Parliament, the press and the public.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

He was the "expert" rolled out Radio 2 the other day. He was very knowledgeable to be fair but did mention his anti "black rifle" stance.

Let us face it, if MY wants to be taken serious by the establishment then he has to spout nonsense like that.

On R2 he said that in order to shoot that fast the shooter had to be using something "belt driven"... kukkuk

Not only that, he also mentioned that anything military should not be in public hands.

The guy is an utter prat and half the problem why stricter laws come around. If firearms were banned sequentially over time, all that would be left is Section 2 shotguns and air rifles/pistols, by which time there wouldn't be such a big userbase to oppose any type of ban... I'm sure he would be quite keen on blaming the rest of the shooting audience for not defending HIS interest.
