What on earth is a 'Non-air weapon'?

I dunno but the official use of the term "air weapon" pi$$es me off no end, as those currently legal in the UK are not & never have been intended to be used as weapons - an implement intended to do harm to others.

The word weapon is used because firearms legislation language was written when we were still trusted enough for self-defence to be a 'good reason' to apply for an FAC, and therefore a relevant word to use. Nowadays it should most definitely be re-written to only reference 'firearms' or 'guns', but they aren't as scary sounding so its not going to happen.

I’ve received a response from my MP. Hopefully my letter was rational and well worded yet I feel the response hints that this is perhaps a foregone conclusion. My initial reaction was to respond and state that perhaps the tools of the current terrorists - rental vans, HGV’s and chefs knives should also face similar scrutiny using that logic but have refrained.

“Thank you for your recent email regarding the consultation on offensive and dangerous weapons.

It is my understanding that Ministers have said that in proposing to prohibit the ownership of .50 calibre 'materiel destruction' rifles of a type that the potential range and penetration of these weapons are such that they are a significant risk if they, or the ammunition, were to fall into the wrong hands, which is why it has proposed that they no longer be allowed for civilian use.

That being said, I do understand your concerns around the points you've raised on the way in which the wording of the consultation is handled, so I have forwarded your views onto the Home Secretary to view as part of the consultation, but I would also encourage you to respond to the consultation directly.

I hope that is helpful in the meantime.

The NRA have commissioned some independent tests to show to the consultation, so hopefully this will be demonstrated.
