Firearms renewal - Beds, Herts and Cambs

I sent my renewal application docs in around the middle of September and then called the FEO a month later who acknowledged receipt and promised to have it done by the time my licence expires on 29.11.17.

This morning I recevied a phone call from a cheery chap in the office who thanked me for my early application but admitted that they wanted me to complete another form regarding club attendance which he says I could find on their website. The link doesn't appear to be working for me (I get an error 404 message) but I did find one on the MET police site which I'm assuming will be the same form.

Is this a normal requirement for a renewal now?

I would think it's this one on page 2 of the Application Checklist:

I can imagine they'd want that for an inital grant, but not for a renewal...

The Club Secretaries have to send in an attendance list every few months, so the FEO will know that you're an active member of the Club..so why get the Club to sign a form confirming it..?

thanks TomH - couldn't get the link to work on the Beds website - thats a much simpler form to complete!

on my renewal they pulled that one out of the closet, its a new "guideline" they seem to be working to, it was the first time my club secretary had been asked for more than a confirmation that the applicant shot with the club, and they wanted detailed dates and shot counts, what they got was less :p seems like this is here to stay .

Only if they get blind compliance. The club does not have to regularly provide the police with attendance records/round counts?? etc etc. They simply need to make their attendance records available to the police.

"I shoot at XYZ club. Here is the club secretarys phone number/email address. He's told me the records will be available for you to view on **/**/**** between **:** and **:**, if you need to make an appointment, please give him a call".

The form linked looks like another bored FEOs wet dream, and isn't even correct. it states that it has to be filled out by 'the applicant' and then is clearly worded to be filled out by a committee member of the club! clapclap 8-)

I think you are missing the point, the guidance requires that the club keeps a record of the number of visits and which firearms were used and how often, this form just allows a standardised response to be made by the club when asked, ie to support a renewal application, blind compliance doesn't come into it.

No point missed at all, what this does is shift the burden of obtaining the information from the FLD, as the legislation requires, to the certificate holder/their club, it can then be used as another stick to beat us with for not providing it.

I am with Blackstuff here, I am fed up with all this extra bureaucracy that is suddenly required to renew a certificate which the person in question has had for years.

Medical reports we potentially have to pay for, attendance reports we have to provide, what is next?
Exams?

Normally when my renewal is up I provide my own round count which in itself should be enough because it indicates attendance (I have to be at a range to shoot the said rounds)

It only takes one phone call to match that with an entry at the club.

The annoying part is that they whack these questions on you at the point of renewal without any indication that this information is needed. Not everyone keeps a system of how many rounds they fire (especially if they handload) and some club attendances are paper based. Do they really expect the applicant to review 5 years worth of data that may not even exist to support a request from an FEO that isn't required by law?

I do keep tabs on round count through each firearm but it's a lifetime count and not broken down by year etc.
