Royal Armouries, Leeds - Wealth of information
I reached out to the Royal Armouries at Leeds yesterday, as I was after some information on De Lisle carbine ammunition which I couldn't find online. They got back to me within a couple of hours, with info I hadn't been able to find. For those that haven't been, or weren't aware of this place it is well worth a visit. Amazing to see such a place in this day and age where anything arms and armour related is so demonised by the press and politicians, and great to have a record of such a vital part of our past which is available to see.

No idea Dromia - I dropped them an email with my question, and have never had to go there for research purposes.
Re: Royal Armouries, Leeds - Wealth of information
Via email my friend got scans of ledgers from the early 1800's from the armouries. He'd bought an old shotgun and they provided all the info they held for that gun for free.

I love it - to visit as a normal punter. Great day out and child-compatible too. Never had to engage them other than as a bimbling gun-spotter though.

Turn up after hours on the right day, give the secret knock at the door, have the right paw shake and you'll bump into us givin' a lecture or two to a select and invited audience...
We can't commend the Curators highly enough for the support they give, and maybe you'll forgive us a plug of their latest book, "Arms and Armour of the First World War" It's well worth a read !
