Quickload ballistic programme

I have been thinking of investing in a Quickload ballistics data programme to help with load development.

Can someone give me an opinion as to its effectiveness and value for money please?

We find it a very useful tool. Like most other things, it's not perfect and shouldn't be relied upon in its own right to generate load data but it is very good for ruling out what powders and loads won't be suitable for a given application and pointing you towards those that are. We use it to narrow down the selection of powders and bullets for a particular rifle and distance, then to generate the starting data for a careful fine tuning of parameters. Cross reference it with published data for safety and you'll be fine. We're not sure how we managed without it...

But I was told that a lot of the modern new powders are not listed on there ..
Like the IMR enduron range for instance.

QuickLOAD is regularly updated, so new powders such as the IMR Endurons will be made available to registered licence holders in due course.

+1 on Laurie's post. When Reload Swiss hit the market it wasn't long until QuickLoad data was made available, then again, the QuickLoad module was supplied by Reload Swiss themselves.

I've found it very useful for load development given that you enter the correct information! In one instance, I was looking for moderate loads for my 30carbine (similar to gallery loads for 357mag) and so I consulted QuickLoad using a list of suitable fast burning pistol powders that are normally used with 357mag. For Accurate No2, based on my entries, it predicted a muzzle velocity of X fps (can't remember exact figures) at each load. I measured my velocity with a chronograph and found that real life was off by around 15fps almost every time at each load. The real life data confirmed the QuickLoad model was correct and so I am happy.

That's something to keep in mind. QuickLoad is a model based on inputs and nothing more. It gives you a prediction which must be confirmed by using real life data. Good luck, and always work your loads up from minimum using published load data!

At the risk of sounding thick, I assume you need to purchase the Quick load programme in the first instance, then download the module from the QL site?

That is correct, QuickLoad is a software that performs the calculations etc whereas the addon modules are a sort of database with the characteristics for the powder or bullets.

Not much point owning a program that's no good to me, while I wait ..

I received the latest QL update just a few days ago and it lists four Enduron powders
