Any ideas what this is?
Came across this photo on the net, way outside my area of knowledge.
Just out of interest, what is it?

I think its just the angle of the photo, and probably shot with a very wide angle, almost "fish-eye", lens which has distorted it.

The only modification is the paint job.
No idea what its doing poking out of a helicopter though, especially with a red-dot sight on it

It is a Barret. But with an Eotech I’m going to claim Photoshop and Call of Duty...
Look at the patches on the right arm, they look like they’re from a “sticker sheet”!

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Not really!
I'd hate to try and hit something from a massive distance away (i.e. when in a helicopter) with a semi-auto, especially one that kicks like a Barret 50!

Look up "Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron" on google https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicopte ... l_Squadron
It shows the use of the Barrett in such a set up by the U.S. Coast Guard. The .50 is used mainly to destroy engines on fast boats trying to sneak into the southern coast of the U.S. from what I have watched on youtube.
We "copied" or did something similar to the U.S. system when the London Olympics were on. The guys in our "meat hawk" helicopters weren't anywhere near as well equipped according to the press and in addition to their sniper rifles were issued with shotguns in order to engage terrorists in light aircraft or helicopters. It looked to me as if we had gone back 100 years to the days of the RFC (Royal Flying Corps) where aircrew would engage the opposition with rifles, pistols and shotguns.
